Trivandrum: KSRTC-SWIFT is all set to introduce Super Fast bus services. The first of 131 super-fast buses procured for the service has arrived at the KSRTC-SWIFT headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram from Bangalore. The remaining buses will arrive by March 15.
According to a press release from the office of the Chairman & Managing Director, KSRTC- SWIFT, these buses will be used for budget tourism in the months of March-April after the trial run and registration process is completed. After that, these buses will start regular services around mid-May. These buses can be used for long-distance services only after studying the routes to be used.
The bus body has been built by Bangalore-based SM Kannappa Automobiles (Prakash) on Ashok Leyland’s 12-meter-long chassis. The new bus with air suspension also offers more space inside and has 55 seats instead of 52 seats in the earlier KSRTC Superfast bus. A 32-inch TV for displaying advertisements, a 360-degree camera inside the bus, a camera on the dashboard in the front and at the back is provided for passenger safety. A public announcement system is in place which will be audible for passengers standing outside also.
The BS6 complaint bus features tubeless tires along with comfortable seats, an emergency door, a GPS system, mobile charging points at each seat and a facility for advertising on the back of the seats. These buses are also equipped with i-Alert system to monitor the technical activities of the buses online.
